The history of the English Cocker Spaniel goes back hundreds of years. It took a very long time to separate the spaniels into different category of breeds though. The cocker was originally named after a bird that this dog was actually bred to hunt in the first place, and sense the cocker has become one of the most popular breed of dogs found in homes today. There are so many great things about the English Cocker Spaniel that make it the perfect addition to your home or family. With all breeds however, there are many things you should be aware of before choosing this breed. Some of the things you should consider is whether or not you are a good match for the breed, and whether or not you can give your cocker the attention it will need such as english cocker spaniel grooming.

There are many different variations of the English Cocker Spaniel to look for. You will find pups in several colors as well as several various coat textures and lengths. English cocker spaniel grooming should be thought of extensively since the coat will need much care. Whether you are up to the task yourself, or you are able to take your pup to an experienced groomer as often as needed should be one of the considerations to make before you make the jump to adopt this breed. Other things to consider include the life expectancy of this particular breed. You must ask yourself if you are going to be committed to this new addition for at least 12-15 years. You won’t want to bring this new life into your world only to give him or her up to a shelter a couple years after. This breed will need your love for quite some time. The temperament of the English Cocker Spaniel will vary a little, but they are lively and great with children, and do best with average sized yards for some daily exercise.

While english cocker spaniel grooming and temperament is something of great consideration to make, there are several other things to think about as well. This breed is known for ear infections due to the length of their ears. If you cannot care for your pet often enough, then you should maybe consider another breed. If you can offer this breed everything it needs and then some, then you will find yourself with a companion that will be there for a very long time, and will make life that much more enjoyable along the way as well.
